FEW WORDS ON PURUSATTOM DASA THAKURA

“Shri Sadashiv Kabiraj Baro Mahasoya

Shri Purusattam Das Tnahar Tanoya”

The meaning of the word “Purusattom” is Basudeva Shri Krishna himself. “Dasa” has been used as His servant. The title of Mahatma Purusattom Dasa was Thakura; it is mentioned in Chaitanya Chandradoya, “Preme Paripurna Shri Purusattam Thakura .” Purusattam Thakura was contemporary to Mahaprabhu; in his former birth he was Eternal associate to absolute being (Krishna in Brojoleela)- one of the 12 brojogopals. His name was Stokokrishna Gopal, he was prime associate to Krishna and Balarama.

Out of the Best friends mentioned in the 22nd chapter of the 10th skandha of Shrimod Bhagabat we find the name of “Stokokrishna”. He is one of the 12th Brojogopals described in the 57th chapter in Chaitanyakhanda of Anantasanghita. Again Bhagaban Himself said “Stokokrishna is my dearmost Gopal amongst 12 Gopals in Brojoleela. He would appear in Physician family in Chaitanyavatar Era as Purusottam by name.

Shri Sanatan and Srijibpad had written in Shri Vaishnavtoshoni(10/15/20)-Shrikrishnasamantweno Sakhitwadhyartham, Tathapi Krishna To Loghutweno Stokokrishna Iti Khateh(Shri Sanatan).

For the sake of friendship with Shri Krishna, he is equal to Shri Krishna, still being little less to Bhagaban Krishna, he is called small(Stoko) Krishna alias Stokokrishna.

At present available in printed Gour Ganodyeshdeepika (130-131 Baharampur Edition) that there are chance of complexity in the two slokas, few persons mistook “Nagar Purusottam “ as the son of Sadashiv Kabiraj (Ref:-http://www.stephen-knapp.com/purusottam_dasa_thakura.htm)

There are clear proof in several books that son of Sadashiv Kabiraj is Purusottam Das and he is courtier in Brojoleela. Nagara Purusottam is different person and he is described as “Dama courtier “and he is not the son of Sasashiv Kabiraj.

In the manuscript kept in Asiatic Society of Bengal(Calcutta)(III E 45 NO)

“Sadashiv suto Namna Nagara Purusottamha “

The word ” Nagara” was written “Dasyoshri” in another version of text. It is written in 806 No. manuscript of Sahitya Parishad that.-

“Dam-Nama Sakha Pragjo Nagaroh Purusottamoh
Sadashiv –Suto Namna Thakkuroh Purusottamoh
Baidyobangsodvutah StokoKrishna Jo Ballabo Broje”
