Shri Shri Thakur Kanai lost his mother on the 11th day of his birth. Being confounded to bring up the child, his father Shri Purusattam Dasa Thakur remembered his own spiritual guide Shrimat Nityananda Prabhu . Amazingly next day Shrimat Nityananda Prabhu along with his own people stepped into the house of Shri Purusattam Dasa Thakur and told him “My child, don’t worry .I will bring up your baby”.
Hearing this affectionate and nectar like speech from his own spiritual guide, Shri Purusattam Dasa Thakur offered his own son on the feet of orphan loving Shrimat Nityananda Prabhu.Nityananda Prabhu most carefully brought the child to Khardaha and offered the child to the affectionate lap of his childless elder wife Jahnava Devi and told her “Dear, bring up this child as your own”.
Jahnava Devi, as a priceless gift from her husband, started bringing up the beautiful child as her own. In the first rice eating ceremony Shrimat Nityananda Prabhu himself named the child “Sishu Krishnadas”. At his young age Krishnadas went to Vrindavan with Jahnavamata and at the time of sankirtan he danced in Madanmohan Temple and as trance of Krishna played on flute in such illusion amongst devotees present there that hearing this, surrounding Brajabasis flocked together and said “ Is that Kanai returned to Gokul?” and saw that same type of image of deity in the throne was dancing on the floor. Seeing this unprecedented grace Srijib Goswami and other played hymn and designated him as “Shri Kanu Thakur”. Thereafter he was named as “Shri Thakur Kanai “or “Shri Kanu Thakur”.
Initiated by Shrinat Nityananda Prabhu, magnanimous Shri Vrindavan Dasa had written,
